A handover ceremony of medicine from Cuba to help Vietnam fight the Covid-19 pandemic was held in Ha Noi on August 5 by the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defense.
The medicine, interferon Alfa 2B made in Cuba, plays a special important role in treating severe Covid-19 cases. The whole batch of medicine was immediately transferred to Da Nang city and Quang Nam province, Vietnam’s Covid-19 hotspots.
Besides, a group of Cuban health experts has been sent to Vietnam to support the Covid-19 fight. After mandatory quarantine in Vietnam Military Medical Academy, they will travel to Vietnam’s epicenters to help fight this infectious disease.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh expressed his gratitude to Cuban people for their special sentiments to Vietnam, especially in this difficult time. He also affirmed that this is a fine tradition in the bilateral solidarity and friendship.
Last month, Vietnam donated around three tons of medical equipment to fight Covid-19, including rapid test kits, masks and protective suits to Cuba.
Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera said the handover of the medicine to assist Vietnam in the fight against the pandemic helps affirm the desire to boost bilateral cooperation in the medical and pharmaceutical fields between Cuba and Vietnam, contributing to the bilateral relations of comprehensive cooperation.
