(QNO) - The Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building for Sustainable Urban Development in Vietnam (ISCB) project, funded by the Swiss government via the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and supported by UN-Habitat, is bringing positive changes to Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province.
From concept to reality
Launched in 2021, this initiative aims to enhance urban planning by engaging local authorities and communities. Tam Ky, alongside Ben Tre, was selected for pilot activities, with a key focus on Tam Thanh commune.
Since its official collaboration with UN-Habitat in 2022, Quang Nam province has actively participated in the project. Key milestones included research, surveys, and public consultations, particularly between July 2022 and July 2023. The project seeks to transform Tam Thanh into both a tourist attraction and a community-driven economic hub.
From late 2023 to early 2025, further surveys and studies refined development strategies. In 2024, activities such as waste audits and SWOT analyses contributed to long-term planning for sustainable development. A pivotal workshop in September 2024 defined goals and action plans, leading to public space design efforts in early 2025.
Small changes, big impact
A core component of the ISCB project is the implementation of small but meaningful interventions, revitalising unused spaces for public benefit. This participatory process includes site selection, evaluation, co-design, construction, and final handover, aligning with the annual Tam Thanh Sea Festival in August 2025.
Officials emphasise the project's alignment with Tam Ky’s strategic vision, reinforcing community engagement. The provincial government pledges continued support, ensuring seamless project execution and fostering further initiatives to enhance Tam Ky’s sustainable growth.
