(QNO) - An expert consultation on the Japanese Covered Bridge conservation project was held at the Hoi An Centre for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation on the afternoon of October 24.
Present at the meeting were representatives from JICA Vietnam, the National Council of Cultural Heritage under the National Institute of Cultural Heritage of Vietnam, and Japanese and Vietnamese experts.
Reportedly, the project on the Japanese Covered Bridge (Chua Cau in Vietnamese) conservation has been implemented.
The project has completed 3D scanning of the bridge, building the cover house, unroofing its yin and yang tile roof and wooden frame system, consolidating its foundation, abutments, and pillars.
The consultation focused on repairing and renovating wooden structures, the roof and decoration, restoring the colour of the bridge.
The experts at the consultation had a lot of suggestions from the perspective of preserving the original elements as much as possible, maintaining both the value and function of the bridge, renovating based on science, history and long-term stability.
The project on renovating the Japanese Covered Bridge has a total capital of over VND20.2 billion from the Quang Nam and Hoi An budget. It started on December 18, 2022 and is expected to finish in December 2023.
