(QNO) - The EU and France will fund two projects on in Quang Nam and Quang Tri that focus on adapting to climate change and resolving issues related to its effects.
The two projects are anti-landslide coastal protection in Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) and the Central coastal urban development towards green growth and fighting against climate change in Dong Ha (Quang Tri).
AFD is a major sponsor in Vietnam, showing the commitment of the Government of France and the European Union (EU) for development projects in Vietnam.
The Ministry of Finance of Vietnam (VMF) will coordinate with Quang Nam and Quang Tri to effectively use the capital.
According to Olivier Brochet, Ambassador of the Republic of France to Vietnam, the Government of France pays much attention to the fight against climate change in Vietnam.
Via AFD, the Government of France wants to support Vietnam in carrying out projects related to climate in order to facilitate local economic development and improve the living conditions of the locals.
According to Peteris Ustubs, Director of the Middle East, Asia, and Pacific, Directorate for International Partnerships under the European Commission, the projects not only support strengthening local community resilience but also contribute to common efforts to fight against global climate change.
These investment projects show the EU commitment to Vietnam as a loyal partner in climate action and sustainable development.
In Quang Nam, the project will protect the coastline from landslides and restore the beaches sustainably through two main solutions, including building underground breakwaters and beach creation.
In Quang Tri, the project will help upgrade the local infrastructure in Dong Ha, contributing to the harmonious development of local urban infrastructure in combination with green growth and adapting to climate change.
Concurrently, the projects help improve the local living quality, turning Dong Ha into a class II urban city, in accordance with the strategic development orientation of Quang Tri province.
