(QNO) - On February 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a working session with Quang Nam leaders to review economic progress and highlighted Chu Lai airport’s strategic importance as a key competitive advantage for Quang Nam.
During the meeting, PM Pham Minh Chinh addressed Quang Nam’s proposals, including preserving Hoi An and My Son heritages, developing Chu Lai Economic Zone into a national auto and mechanical hub, investing in Cua Lo waterway for 50,000-ton ships, expanding Chu Lai logistics centre, upgrading Highways 14D and 14B, and adjusting Da Nang University urban planning.
Regarding the Chu Lai Airport investment and Tam Quang duty-free zone, PM Pham Minh Chinh tasked Quang Nam authorities and the Ministry of Defence with resolving land issues by February 2025.
PM Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed Chu Lai Airport’s strategic importance, emphasising its unique potential and competitive advantage for Quang Nam, thus calling for its upgrade to 4F standard with an airport city and aviation ecosystem.
PM Pham Minh Chinh assigned Quang Nam to lead investor recruitment, coordinating with relevant ministries to resolve issues. He urged fast-tracking procedures, completing approvals by mid-2025, and prioritising investors who commit to finishing projects within two years.
Chu Lai airport investment plan
Quang Nam submitted a Chu Lai Airport investment proposal in April 2023. In 2024, SOVICO-ADANI and Vietjet proposed investments with Quang Nam leaders engaging defence and Indian partners.
The province requests land delineation, asset valuation, and finalisation of the 2021-2030 airport master plan, urging Task Force 1121 to fast-track approval.
