(QNO) - The celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sekong province (14/4/1984–14/4/2024) was solemnly held on the evening of April 4th. Present at the event was Sonexay Siphandone, Prime Minister of the Laotian People's Democratic Republic (PDR).
Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, leading the Quang Nam leaders delegation, attended the celebration.
Sekong province is located in the southeast region of the Lao PDR. It was separated from Saravan province on April 14, 1984. After 40 years, Sekong has undergone a lot of great changes in its appearance and infrastructure.
Reportedly, the local budget revenue was gradually increasing, from 40 million kips in 1984 to 300.83 billion kips in 2023.
According to Lechlay Sivilay, Party Secretary and Governor of Sekong Province, the provincial infrastructure, especially the systems of transportation and electricity in remote areas, People’s lives have improved significantly.
The poverty has been resolved. The preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values have received more attention.
In terms of foreign affairs, Sekong established a special cooperative relationship with Quang Nam - Danang province in 1984 and with Quang Nam in 1997.
Since then, Sekong has received a lot of aid and support from these Vietnamese provinces via hundreds of projects with a total value of tens of billions of dongs.
After 40 years of establishment, Sekong has a new appearance with a lot of significant achievements in socioeconomic development and poverty alleviation, opening up new opportunities for growth and comprehensive development.
At the celebration, Prime Minister of the Laotian PDR Sonexay Siphandone delivered a directive with important contents for Sekong breakthrough and development in the future.
At the same time, he congratulated Sekong on what the province has achieved over the past 40 years.
