(QNO) - The 16th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) opened on September 22 in Vietnam’s Da Nang city. Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and delegates from ASEAN member states attended the event.
The 16th AMRI Conference, themed “Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN,” was an event for ministers in charge of information from ASEAN countries to promote cooperation among ASEAN’s members in the fields of journalism, radio and television, the internet (social networks, websites, and internet-based communications), and raise awareness about ASEAN.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that, since joining ASEAN in 1995 with the motto of ‘being active, proactive, and responsible’ and participating in the common development process of ASEAN, Vietnam has attached special importance to the field of information and communication.
She also stated that the 16th ARMI Conference was an important forum for ASEAN’s member states and other countries to dialogue, exchange and determine priorities and directions for cooperation in the coming time, and join hands to successfully implement the United Nations’ Millennium Goals and the ASEAN Community’s priorities.
Currently, ASEAN cooperation in the field of information and communications is one of Vietnam's 15 areas of cooperation in the ASEAN Socio - Cultural Community, directed by the AMRI.
In a speech at the conference, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung stated that the information and communications industry is undergoing revolutionary changes, opening up new spaces to jointly contribute to building a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN community.
It is a change from information to knowledge and understanding. Taking the lead in this change is also the contribution of ASEAN countries to the world's information and communications.
