Artistic products made from recycled denim fabric

Translated by VAN GIANG Apr 13, 2025 16:43

(QNO) - Thousands of used jeans, instead of being discarded, have been collected by young people in Hoi An and recycled into handmade items such as bags, backpacks, hats, lanterns, fashion accessories, and even art pieces, which have become popular among tourists.

Artist Pham Minh Long, a graduate of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts, focused on developing products made from recycled denim after noticing the environmental impact of discarded jeans. He started the "Tai Che Jean" Facebook page, which now has over 10,000 members sharing ideas and designs for handmade items from recycled denim.

Recognizing the potential of Hoi An's tourist market, Minh Long opened a store in late 2024 under the brand Ecodenim to showcase his creations. In addition to handmade items, he and his team also create artistic works, such as a landscape painting of the Japanese Covered Bridge using recycled denim fabric.

The artwork was created by Nguyen Lan Anh, a young "Gen Z" artist from FPT College, using the collage technique. After completing the 2-meter-long painting of Japanese Covered Bridge from recycled denim fabric, it was displayed in the Japanese Covered Bridge space.

Lan Anh faced challenges with the limited color options and the collage technique, but after months of effort, the piece was completed. She expressed happiness that the artwork is appreciated by both tourists and locals and plans to hold a small exhibition featuring Hoi An landscapes made from recycled denim.

Amelia Jones, an Australian tourist, praised the creative, skilled, and affordable handmade recycled products in Hoi An, especially the Japanese Covered Bridge painting, which she found unique and impressive.
