(QNO) - A unique collection of snake mascots named Bé Na is made of driftwood and discarded rotting timber by Le Ngoc Thuan, owner of the Hoi An Driftwood Art Studio, to welcome the 2025 Lunar New Year.
Le Ngoc Thuan has gained nationwide recognition in applied arts over the past few years, showcasing his works in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Europe. His inspiring story revolves around repurposing discarded wood to revive the renowned Kim Bong carpentry village in Quang Nam.
Thuan's workshop, located in the fields of Cam Ha, Hoi An (Quang Nam), is busy in pre-Tet. He has made unique mascot collections from driftwood and discarded rotting timber for several years. For 2025, he designed a snake-themed series, balancing their familiar yet often unfriendly image in Vietnamese culture.
Thuan spent months sourcing driftwood to craft gentle, friendly snake mascots, reflecting the peaceful and joyful spirit of spring.
As Tet nears, various driftwood snake figures are displayed at the village and sold online. These driftwood snakes have simple, elegant colours and emotional designs. Their gentle poses, traditional attire, and Phuc-Loc-Tho (Happiness-Wealth-Longevity) symbols with apricot blossoms delight visitors.
