(QNO) - Kawa Wandi, along with his wife Nisha and their three children, left Sweden to travel the world. But their journey took an unexpected turn when they arrived in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province.
Kawa Wandi’s Vietnamese name is Khôi. The beautiful ancient city of Hoi An has captivated him and other members in his family. As a result, they have lived there for four years (since 2000) in a small villa in Cam Thanh, with Nisha home-schooling the children while Wandi manages his business.
Full of energy and warmth, Wandi knows Hoi An’s streets like a local. His bearded face, curly hair, bright eyes, and ever-present smile have made him a beloved figure in the community.
Wandi speaks of Vietnam, Hoi An, and their riverside home with deep love. Their journey took an unexpected turn when they saw the struggles of locals during COVID-19.
Wandi donated food and essentials, later expanding his charity efforts to Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Tay Giang. His funding projects have been worth billions of Vietnamese Dong.
After the pandemic, when discussing their next move, his family made a surprising decision: no one wanted to leave Hoi An. They felt safe and at peace there. “Hội An, Anh yêu em” (Hoi An, I love you) is their favourite phrase. It is also the title of a Thai film they adore.
