(QNO) - The opening of guided tour activities in Kim Bong carpentry village (Cam Kim commune, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province) last weekend is expected to bring new vitality to this traditional craft village.
Kim Bong carpentry village established in the 16th century, renowned for its traditional carpentry, is located about 2km from Hoi An Ancient Town.
Until now, the Kim Bong carpentry craft has been preserved and passed down by hundreds of skilled craftsmen in construction, household items, boat-building, and artistic woodworking. This is one of the early-established tourist attractions and become a popular destination.
Hoi An joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in crafts and folk art in 2023 has re-energized Kim Bong carpentry village.
The opening of guided tours starting from June 1st enhances the recognition of Kim Bong carpentry village's brand among visitors, alongside other craft villages like Tra Que vegetable village and Thanh Ha pottery village, which have also started offering guided tours.
Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, mentioned there are challenges in managing and organizing tourism activities that benefit the local community.
Despite this, it marks a new start with hopes for a bright future for the craft village and the region, aligning with sustainable tourism trends in the new era.
Recently, Kim Bong carpentry village has upgraded its infrastructure and landscapes to support guided tours and develop programs and routes.
